I'm frankly disappointed to find this, as it means the only way to preserve decent-looking images from my iPhone on Google Photos is to switch to Compatibility mode on iOS, which saves all images as JPEGs but doesn't allow for features like 4K60 and takes up more space on my iPhone, or paying Google for more storage to use Original upload quality.
